Houston, TX- Macy’s in Texas Georgia and Louisiana recently introduced a new cosmetics company to their prestigious list of beauty counters. Joining the ranks of MAC, Chanel and Bobbi Brown is the minority-owned LAMIK. Created by makeup artist, Kim Roxie, LAMIK (pronounced la-meek) hit Macy’s stores this summer and offers everything from lip glosses to eye shadows to lashes.
“Eco-chic make-up means eco-friendly, glamorous and natural,” explains Roxie, who opened the first LAMIK store in Houston, TX. Because of LAMIK, it is now easier for people to make a healthier choice when it comes to their make-up options because the line’s ingredients consist of water, vitamins E and C, minerals derived from the earth, Aloe Vera and green tea, not harsh and harmful ingredients like talc, lead, fragrance and poly(iso)butene.
LAMIK is an eco-chic beauty line that offers cosmetics, skincare and lashes. Roxie concocted her own “green” formulas in her kitchen and tried them out on clients. “LAMIK is an acronym that stands for Love and Makeup in Kindness,” company founder Kim Roxie said. “This is a blessing and a huge honor for us to be joining the Macy’s family.”
Roxie, a Houston native and former attendee of Clark Atlanta University, started LAMIK Beauty in 2004 at the age of 21. Her journey into the beauty industry began with the passion that she had for breaking down stereotypes of beauty adopted by society that were destroying the self-esteem of the average woman. While in the process of launching LAMIK, Roxie along with her chemist, a 25-year Estee Lauder employee, experimented with different abstracts to create a healthy product for its customers. “We ultimately decided to use antioxidants that would stop cancer causing free radicals,” she said.
The launch party for LAMIK was held at Macy’s in the Pearlend Town Center in Texas. The collaboration was made possible by Macy’s “The Workshop” retail vendor development program which is designed to give select high potential minority and/or women business owners the tools to succeed and sustain growth in the retail industry.
“I had a vision about wanting to create something for all women, particularly women of color. I’m so excited for things to come.
