Community invited to attend open forum, “Where do we go from here”
Upland, CA - The day will begin with the viewing of the historic inauguration of Barack Obama, the nation’s first African American president. Attendees will enjoy a continental breakfast along with music and testimonials of various community members who have endured trials and tribulations in their search for equality in America.
Following the live broadcast at Victory Community Church of the inauguration on January 20, 2009, local community members are encouraged to participate and provide their input as part of an open forum that will attempt to answer the question, “Where We Go From Here?”
“We encourage everyone interested in the successful administration to attend and display their support for the ongoing commitment to making a change in our country,” said Gloria Morrow, PhD. “We want to stress to everyone that the work does not stop with this inauguration. Our goal is to be a catalyst that will help keep an enthusiastic desire for the change that helped elect Obama as our first black president in the forefront of our community’s mind.”
Featuring a diverse panel of 12 community representatives, the forum has a variety of topics that are slated for discussion, which will explore: ways to support the newly elected president’s agenda as a community, identifying barriers to accomplishing goals and how we as a community will overcome adversity.
Those members confirmed as part of this panel at press time include: Daniel Lorea, University of LaVerne; Tracey Stoll, Mt. San Antonio Gardens; Dr. Agnes Moreland-Jackson, Retired Pitzer College; Emmett Terrell, Pomona Unified School District; Angela Powell, Attorney; Selesta Shurney, Student Ganesha High School; Sterling Cross, Sr., Sound Technician; Sterling Cross, Jr., Student Damien High School; Evelyn Wilson, Community Matriarch and Dr. Edwin Javius, EdEquity.
