Upland, CA Mayor Seeks Re-Election in November

Mayor, John 'JP' Pomierski

By Michael Downer

Upland, CA --- Having lived in Upland since 1968, John “JP” Pomierski is currently seeking a third term as the Mayor for the City of Upland.

Mayor Promierski states his bid for re-election would continue an increase  in commercial growth and collaborative efforts throughout Upland, having served as mayor of Upland for the last eight years.

Under his leadership Upland has experienced an infusion of new leadership in key departments along with a reduction in the deficit which in the year 2000 reached $2 million, to currently enjoying a surplus of $20 million.

“We have come a long way,” said Mayor Promierski. “There is a huge moral change in the city and you feel a sense of teamwork that has made so much of our success possible.”

It has been through teamwork that the city has rebounded from its internal challenges. Once seen only as an upper end bedroom community, Upland has grown to become a city that has both residential and commercial appeal.  In fact, the city has partnered with the Upland Chamber of Commerce in a collaborative advertising and marketing campaign to expand the exposure of businesses in the city.  The goal of this program will be to inform residents of the importance of spending their hard earned dollars in Upland, which in turn helps to pay for city services.

“It is extremely important for us to leave egos at the door and to work together to make this city, which I love, the best it can be,” says Mayor Promierski. “Much of our financial turnaround during my eight year administration can be attributed to the development of one of the city’s biggest development projects; The Colonies Crossroads.”

Along with The Colonies, downtown Upland has seen an increase in business with several redevelopment projects in the works, including a new fire station for The Colonies, new sports park and the Foothill Corridor Project.

While city growth is good, projected to increase from its current population of 76,000 to over 100,000 by the year 2030, public safety remains high on the Mayor’s list of objectives.

“Our current police chief grew up in Upland and is committed to safety,” continues Mayor Promierski.  “We really want to keep the city safe and strong, which includes keeping an eye on the influx of gang activity, especially in the Southeast quadrant.  To that end, we are incorporating a neighborhood policing approach and working with other law enforcement agencies.”

The effort apparently is working, as the city was recently listed as one of the safest cities in the nation, with a population under 100,000.

The owner of JP Construction Company, which has served\ the Inland Empire since 1978,   the Mayor has served on the Upland Housing Authority, is a member of the Upland Foothill Kiwanis and continues to provide support to all of Upland youth sports organizations, Upland schools, services clubs and philanthropic organizations.

Mayor Pomierski serves as the city’s representative to the San Bernardino Association of Governments Board Member, SANBAG Traffic Mitigation Committee, a member of OMNITRANS Executive Board, San Bernardino Council of Governments.  He serves as Chairman to the SANBAG Major Projects Committee and Chairman of the Housing Authority Board.  Mayor Pomierski is the Founder and President of the Upland Fire Foundation which provides support to the Upland Fire Department.
