More than 200 family, friends, and supporters converged on DoubleTree by Hilton Pomona March 30, 2019 to observe the debuts of six young women during an evening entitled: “Precious Pearls with Poise and Purpose”. After months of community service and preparation via workshops designed for leadership development, enhancing social etiquette, financial planning, college awareness, spiritual guidance, job preparation, health awareness, and interpersonal relations., the debutantes and moms united in an exquisite Mother-Daughter Tea Ceremony at Enchanted Tea Rose, igniting a stream of emotions and blossoming Mother-Daughter camaraderie.

The majestic and memorable culminating event, chaired by Cheryl Mayhorn and cochaired by Endy Farrow and Cecelia Huggins was the 2019 Scholarship Debutante Cotillion Ball, which presented the smart, talented and beautiful Debutantes: Kaley Chambers - a Senior at Etiwanda High School escorted by Phillip Hanna; Kelsey Chambers - a Junior at Etiwanda High School escorted by Jailin Davis; Adriana Jones - a Senior at Chino Hills High School escorted by Jordan Love; Yasmeen King - a Senior at John F. Kennedy Middle College High School escorted by Jalen Love; Aniyah Meadows - a Senior at Ayala High School escorted by Kenneth Nowling; and Makayla Turner - a Junior at AB Turner High School escorted by Peter Lee. Tammy Martin-Ryles was the energetic, engaging Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening. Various dances, choreographed by Asia Scott, were elegantly and smoothly performed by the debutantes, escorts, and presenters, to such classic tunes as “Waltz of the Flowers”, and modern renditions of “My Girl” and “Isn’t She Lovely?”

Adhering to the mission of PEARLS of Service, Inc., a charitable arm of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, Epsilon Eta Omega Chapter, the Debutantes were awarded thousands of dollars for scholarships along with other awards to include essay writing, community service, and salesmanship.

The “DJ Sassy B” provided music during dinner and following the banquet to continue the celebration of the debut of the “Precious Pearls with Poise and Purpose”. The participants enjoyed a spellbinding evening, after which many echoed the sentiments of the Chapter President, Andrena G. Dancer, Esq. “I really enjoyed this cotillion.”
